Patrick Beeson

“I have had the pleasure of knowing Patrick in two different roles at CrowdStreet, both of which he excelled at. I also was able to work with Patrick in a third, unofficial position, as a mentor and on-boarder when I first started at CrowdStreet. During that time, when I was first adapting to my new role, he was extremely knowledgeable and helpful as I was trying to get a local development environment together and put the pieces of the stack and the applications together in my mind. As a mentor, he has a great ability to balance when someone needs to be given information or when they just need to know the right direction to look. Even when we came across sections of the application that he wasn’t familiar with, he always knew which team and which person on that team could point us to the answer I needed. As a team lead, I witnessed Patrick thoughtfully guide the team’s efforts in implementing new features, always acutely aware of any pain points we may come across along the way and how best to navigate through those. He was also diligent in ensuring that risks were weighed and accounted for when planning any new features and consistently found solutions that minimized the chance that major regressions could occur. While he was team lead, Patrick also ensured that he was always made time to pair with any team member if they ran into a blocker and yet consistently delivered on his own tickets in a timely fashion, even while juggling all his responsibilities as team lead. It was no surprise to anyone to see him move to the final role I worked under him as an engineering manager. Patrick to a very servant-leader stance in his style of management that focused heavily on the growth of those under him and ensuring that their needs were met, and questions were answered. As my manager, he helped me not just on the technical aspects of my role, but also guided me on my path of growth towards becoming a senior developer. We would meet weekly to discuss anything that was blocking me, team concerns I had, and to spend time aligning the work I was doing towards my goals. Finally, I want to be sure to add that any feedback that was given to Patrick was taken to heart and acted upon. Whether it was a concern I saw with the team or just changing the format of the way we did our one on ones to fit my learning style, Patrick always rose to the occasion and followed through on any commitments he made. Any team he works with in the future will be gaining a kind, knowledgeable, passionate, and well-rounded developer and people leader.”

“I had the pleasure of working with Patrick for the past 5 years. As many other folks have already spoken to, he helped build up the CrowdStreet platform from the ground up. My most positive experience with him, however, was when we were on an interview panel together several years ago. I had noticed that this candidate was only answering technical questions to him, despite me asking the questions. As a woman in STEM, this is, unfortunately, not an uncommon scenario for me. What was, however, uncommon, was that Patrick had also picked up on this and was intentionally trying to avoid eye contact with the candidate to see if he would speak to me instead. That ended up not happening, and after the interview Patrick noted this. Patrick had since moved on to being an engineering leader so I no longer worked with him directly, but I have heard positive things from my colleagues who did.”
