  • Network-integrated storage data cache

    Issued US 11,102,323

In one example, a switch in the form of a network core switch includes one or more card slots. A cache memory device is also included that is configured to be received in one of the card slots. The switch further includes one or more storage node connection ports in communication with the cache memory device, and also includes one or more client communication ports in communication with the cache memory device.

  • Automated capacity planning in mixed data storage environment

    Issued US 11,068,819

In one example, a method for data storage capacity planning includes receiving a data metrics stream that includes information concerning a client-generated data stream, receiving information concerning a data storage capacity of the client, and analyzing the received data metrics. Based on the analysis of the data metrics and based on the information concerning the data storage capacity of the client, a projected data storage capacity requirement for the client is generated. Finally, data…

  • Software Defined Storage Defragmentation

    Issued US 10,938,900

Defragmenting a software defined storage (SDS) system. To defragment an SDS system, the nodes associated with the SDS system are all moved to as to be close in terms of location. This may include de-provisioning nodes, provisioning nodes, and moving nodes as necessary. Multiple SDS systems can be defragmented at the same time.

  • Systems and methods to control data access and usage

    Issued US 10,909,255

Systems and methods to control data access and usage by storing a permitted use of a set of data items. The permitted use identifies: a set of computer resources to be used to operate on the set of data items; rules for operating on the data items; and a data product to be generated from the set of computer resources operating on the set of data items. A project space provides the set of computer resources to operate on the set of data items according to the permitted use, wherein the data…

The permitted use identifies: a set of computer resources to be used to operate on the set of data items; rules for operating on the data items; and a data product to be generated from the set of computer resources operating on the set of data items. A project space provides the set of computer resources to operate on the set of data items according to the permitted use, wherein the data product is to be transferred from the project space to a user device separate from the system; and a usage monitor records operations of the set of computer resources on the set of data items in the project space for compliance with the permitted use. A data air-lock mechanism implements dynamic permissions rules based on actual usages.

  • System and method to protect sensitive information via distributed trust

    Issued US 10,903,980

Multiple, separately administrated computer systems storing slices of the cipher text of a Personally Identifiable Information (PII) data item that is represented by a token. The token is used as a substitute of the data item. The data item is encrypted using a public key. To recover the data item, a complete set of the slices is retrieved from the separate computer systems and decrypted using the private key corresponding to the public key. Instances and circumstances of the usages of the data item can be recorded under the token in a blockchain ledger in connection with the retrieval and/or decryption of the cipher text. A data item owner may use the data item and the public key to recreate the cipher text, retrieve the token stored with the cipher text in the separate computer systems, and then query the ledger for a usage history of the data item.

  • Automated provisioning and de-provisioning software defined storage systems

    Issued US 10,684,784

Systems and methods for automatically provisioning and de-provisioning software defined storage (SDS) systems. Characteristics such as IOPS (Input Output operations per Second), capacity, and throughput of the SDS systems are monitored. Capacity or storage is added or removed from the SDS systems based on the relationships between the characteristics of the SDS systems with respect to upper and lower thresholds.

Implementations are provided herein for utilizing the two-part nature of HDFS protocol communications received in a non-native HDFS environment to use discriminative information learned in the NameNode request to make the client experience more efficient. NameNode requests can be received by any node among a cluster of nodes. It can be appreciated that in some non-native HDFS, clients can communicate with any nodes among a cluster to perform transactions and need not first communicate with a NameNode. Thus, upon receiving a NameNode request, the non-native HDFS Cluster of Nodes can prefetch data necessary from stable storage to cache memory for efficient reads and/or writes, allocate space on disk for writes, assign the client to communicate with a specific node among the cluster of nodes based on available cluster resources, etc. In this sense, a more efficient client experience can be offered for HDFS clients within a non-native HDFS environment.
