“Rachel is both a formidable individual contributor and an effective team leader. She is tenacious in her pursuit of all that she sets her mind to and effectively engages both her own team and cross-functionally across the organization. She especially sets herself apart in her compassion for others, vision for a better future, and passion for justice. These qualities can be felt in her leadership clearly, but also in the example she sets in the every-day somewhat unglorified tasks – this inspires all of us on her team to power through the tough spots and strive to achieve more. What has most impressed me about Rachel is the multifaceted approach that she takes to drive success on our operations and supply chain teams. Not only does she herself work tirelessly on analyses, negotiations, and all of the other critical work that this team does to create value for our patients in rural Burundi, but she also invests significant time and energy into understanding and addressing any issues relating to funding, approvals, and organizational buy-in when pulling together her solution. Most recently, she employed this approach to the rapid forecasting and purchasing that we needed to do in order to prepare our medical campus for the arrival COVID-19. She worked with approvers and members of both our clinical and grant administration teams to ensure that there would not be any fatal bumps in the road that would delay the issuance of purchase orders for N95 masks, hand sanitizer and nitrile gloves, which were in drastically short supply at the time. As she always manages to do, no matter what obstacles are in the way, she successfully procured these supplies and others, patching together stock across a variety of vendors and chasing down these products until we had enough in the pipeline. This was no small task given the unprecedented disruptions we have seen to medical supply chains, but Rachel made it happen, ensuring that our health care practitioners and other staff have the protection that they need against COVID-19. ”
