    I had an opportunity to accompany a group traveling to the Duhok Governorate area of Iraqi Kurdistan where they were providing aid to an IDP (Internally Displaced Persons/ Refugee) camp near the Iraqi/Syrian area border. This was a camp that consisted of a population who were displaced due to the conflict with ISIS in 2014. During this trip, aside from the other reasons I had an opportunity to help teach English to high school aged students in camp. I got to learn how a NGO is run in the field. I learned how things operate and got to immerse myself in Kurdish language, culture, and lifestyle. I was also able to stay with a local family, which I feel enriched my cultural experience and helped me to learn and appreciate the diversity in the world we have today.
