This one week mission was a valuable experience for both the student volunteers and the home owners.

Displaying superior leadership and visionary training acumen as Director, Submarine Officer Advanced Course (SOAC), Lieutenant Commander McMunn meticulously managed one of the most complex Navy training piplelines. He spearheaded the overhaul of 1036 instruction hours of SOAC course curriculum, significantly revising key coursework and driving process efficiencies, totaling the recovery of 11 instruction days per class and 10,000 student instruction hours per year. LCDR McMunn provided a direct impact to hundreds of Junior Officers, Submarine Department Heads, and Submarine School Staff, significantly improving the training quality at Naval Submarine School and making a lasting and positive impact on the submarine force.     Professional achievement in the superior performance of his duties while serving in USS MIAMI (SSN 755) from 23 to 24 May 2012. Immediately returning from liberty upon notification of MIAMI's casualty, Lieutenant McMunn was the initial leadership to report to damage control central. Employing his experience and training, he helped organize the topside fire teams to ensure an effective response against the fire. Realizing his talents were required below decks, he quickly donned his gear and reported to the ship, only to suffer 6 fractures to his ribs and a sprained knee when he fell through a section of removed decking. Demonstrating remarkable vigor and high threshold for pain, he removed himself from the ship before being evacuated to the hospital. His willingness to sacrifice his own life in an attempt to save his ship truly embodies the spirit of the submarine force. Lieutenant McMunn's distinctive accomplishments, unrelenting perseverance, and steadfast devotion to duty reflected credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
