How can you protect student data from targeted advertising?
I think it is important to note that not all ad targeting is bad. In fact, I submit that ethical, accurate ad targeting augments the user experience. Advertising funds the free internet. If you are not willing to pay for content, or pay the fair rate for the content you are consuming, you should accept that ads are necessary. And if you are going to get ads, don't you want ads that are relevant to you? Many people do not know that these options and controls exist. Education is needed, on the economics of the internet, and the tools available to manage the consumer ad experience.
