How can you communicate with board members and investors in a transparent and informative way?
Transparency is key with both board members and investors. Sharing the challenges can lighten the burden. Board members are typically experienced leaders with knowledge of how difficult leadership can be. Trying to gloss over poorly performing areas or other bad news will only backfire when the information comes to light. Couch vexing problems as questions you are seeking input and guidance. Be ready to ask great questions and even solicit input from those who seem to offer viable solutions. Leverage your humility and don’t pretend you have all the answers.

How do you foster teamwork in your office?
Doing this well is critical. Don’t let your team get overly focused on where they exist on the org chart. As a team, everyone is accountable for outcomes and need to view each other as allies. Those directly below me are not my subordinates - they are my thought partners. I don’t have all the best ideas or even most of them. Asking others in the organization to take something and make it better can really foster engagement. It’s also important in team meetings to pay attention to those not talking. Asking for input from the quiet ones can reveal critical insights.

How do you make your communication plans socially responsible and sustainable?
This is challenging. Relatable stories can be effective and impactful. Think about your audience and how they prefer to receive information. Help your audience understand what you want them to do with the information. It can be best to include that call to action at the top. Another effective tool can be to include a short “teaser” of text and then link the larger story if your medium allows for that feature. That allows the audience the freedom to click to see more or scroll on.
