I’m so excited to share the news that I will be joining Mutiny to lead marketing and I can’t wait to get started!

The last few years at Radar have been incredible and I’m so proud of everything we’ve accomplished. While it’s hard to say goodbye to work friends with whom I’ve spent the last few years, I will always be rooting for Radar and the amazing team who will carry the torch.

How I met Mutiny I first met Mutiny’s founder, Jaleh , over 3 years ago when I was at Google. At the time, I was working on a program for Google Cloud focused on acquiring mid-market customers. The program, which generated hundreds of millions in pipeline/revenue, resembled what’s now commonly referred to as an account-based marketing (ABM) strategy:

Identify high-potential target accounts and prospects Show them a hyper-relevant and personalized experience Get them into and through the sales funnel When I started this program in 2016, Mutiny didn’t exist, and ABM wasn’t the household name it is today with an entire technology ecosystem to support it. So we spent a lot of time inventing the wheel internally. The piece of the puzzle I was most passionate about building was personalized digital experiences. I realized we had so many messaging permutations for vertical, persona, and hundreds of products in our portfolio. Because these were high value accounts, we had one shot at them - getting them to our site was easy, but making sure they converted was hard.

Google is (in)famous for incubating products that never see the light of day, and one such product was an engine that lets marketers and sales reps build personalized microsites at scale. As that product was being sunsetted, I was able to rehire, as contractors, very talented engineers from that group, and build a growth engineering team within Google Cloud’s marketing org. And we repurposed existing infrastructure to build a platform that powered personalization for our prospects.

At the time, Mutiny was still just an idea, born from Jaleh’s similar experience building an internal growth engineering team at Gusto that helped them personalize digital experiences for their prospects. I was probably too risk averse to leave Google and join a startup as employee #1, but I told Jaleh that if I was brave enough to start my own company, I would build exactly what she’s building.

Two years later, I joined Radar to start the marketing function. I knew the playbook that worked so well for me at Google would work at Radar, but I wouldn’t have the resources to build a growth engineering team. It was perfect timing, as just a few months into my stint at Radar, Mutiny officially launched at TechCrunch Disrupt . It was everything I needed, and probably one of the impactful pieces of technology I’ve ever purchased. We used Mutiny for almost all of our inbound and outbound campaigns , and it quickly became the most essential part of our stack, enabling us to consistently exceed pipeline targets every quarter.

Over the last few years, I’ve gotten incredibly close with the Mutiny team, providing product feedback, making feature requests, and evangelizing the product to other CMOs. And with each feature request, I’ve been blown away by the team’s ability to take customer feedback and turn it into product functionality virtually overnight.

Marketers are finally accountable for revenue Marketing today is so much more complex than it used to be. In the early days, it was enough to put up a website and run some Facebook and Google ads, reporting on vanity metrics like clicks or site visitors. But that's all changed - we as marketers are now on the hook for revenue, and we’ve got more tools, channels, and tactics at our disposal than ever before. And while we have no shortage of brilliant ideas, we’re often constrained by three factors:

Best practices : There's a ton of marketing wisdom out there, but knowing which playbooks are appropriate for your strategy is like finding a needle in a haystack. Growth engineering : We often rely on engineering teams for web work, but these teams usually aren’t dedicated to marketing, resulting in bottlenecks that severely limit how much we’re able to impact the bottom line. Testing and analytics : Growth is all about experimentation and iteration, but so many teams aren’t set up to properly run experiments and understand what’s working and what isn’t. In a world where marketing-sourced revenue expectations are mounting alongside all of these constraints, the vast majority of marketers are stuck chasing silver bullets. But there’s a small group of trailblazing marketers who have figured out how to succeed in this new era. They’ve assembled in-house teams of growth engineers, they’ve set up testing infrastructure, and they regularly swap best practices in closed forums. What gets me so excited about Mutiny is that it productizes the secret sauce of these leading marketers and makes it available as SaaS. Now every marketer can break free of these constraints and start predictably driving revenue.
