The President’s Business Challenge (PBC) Program is a capstone project embedded into the Introduction to Entrepreneurship class at Valley Christian High School in the Business and Entrepreneurship Initiative (BEI) Program. The President’s Business Challenge (PBC) gives VCHS students the opportunity to create a startup while addressing all aspects of business development. Students learn to innovate, problem solve, and collaborate with their fellow classmates, all in preparation for an opportunity to be among the top three finalists to pitch their business idea to top Silicon Valley venture capitalists. Finalist teams receive prize money ranging from $250-$1000.

    • Teams are comprised of a maximum of four students, grades 9-12.
    • Each team will be matched with a lead mentor to “coach” their teams.
    • Mentors interface with students (approximately one hour) via video conference calls, emails, and/or texts with their student team. These meetings continue up until pitch time in March.
    • PBC accounts for 30 percent of the Intro to Entrepreneurship class grade.

The goal of the program is to give the students an opportunity to start their own businesses while they are young and willing to take risks. We currently have two teams who have completed the program/vetting process, working on launching their business with the support of additional mentors.

Not only did I touch upon how our corporation provides the key building blocks for the Internet of Things, including our free and easy to use tools and development boards. I also discussed how our customers can leverage Atmel's large social footprint; it helps startups and Makers generate the necessary visibility to attain funds and become yet another crowdfunding success.

The Maker Movement is rapidly changing the way people design, make things and ultimately launch businesses, whether it pertains to technology, manufacturing, education or our economy.
