Here's how you can effectively handle conflicts and challenging clients in entrepreneurship.
Show the client the data. For example, if the client is delaying the process, and moving to the next steps requires their feedback, approach them with the data on how long it's been - be succinct, straight forward and to the point. Don't make it about them as a person or them as a company, and don't make it about you or your work, it's not a feeling you're discussing, it's not personal, it's strictly data. Remember, in this scenario, we're talking about a delay, people get busy, you have to be good about it. Tell them in a conversation, NOT email, "It's been x days since I/we last heard on ABC Project and I want to keep momentum up and stay on track with our completion goal of XX Date, I need to know what you think of XYZ."

What do you do if candidate profiles show potential red flags?
Give them a chance to explain. If their reasoning is market-specific (layoffs, company bankruptcy, etc.), it can be corroborated, then research it. Reference, reference, and reference again! Take a soft reference from someone they previously worked with. Find someone in your network who knows them and knows their work, and ask them for a reference. You can also ask them the question (tell me about XYZ) in different ways, gauge whether they're good about it, whether they're calm and professional. It's a judgement call. Ask yourself, "If this were my company, would I pay a fee for this person?" If after all homework is done, the answer is no, then tell them why. If it's yes, move them forward and explain to the client/BP everything you know!
