Worked closely with New York City's Department of Education and Harvard Economics Professor Roland Fryer on an innovative pilot program designed to experiment with incentives targeted at middle school students from lower income families designed to encourage students to stay in school and put more efforts into their studies.

We began with the hypothesis that there is an opportunity to incentive students who might otherwise not see the long-term value that getting educated now will have in their lives in future decades. To mitigate this incentive gap, we worked with Verizon to issue thousands of free, high-end cellphones to students at these schools. Students were then "scored" on attendance, performance and attitude by their teachers using online portal we created. Each student's biweekly score determined the number of credits that student was awarded, which could be used to purchase songs, ringtones, or minutes on the phone.

This behavioral science experiment had a material impact on student performance in school. As a result of the strong uptick, the pilot project was featured in Time Magazine, the New York Times, and more. Based on the results, the program has since been replicated in other states and other countries.
