These 23 Fellows were hand-selected out of an international community of more than 1,200 Fellows for the impact they have had at their schools and for their contributions to the movement. At the event, they will represent their schools in front of 300 student and faculty attendees from 82 universities and colleges around the world. They will give presentations on their UIF work to all attendees, modeling for the new Fellows the kind of impact they can have at their own schools. Additionally, their demonstrated organization and leadership skills will be put to work as they lead and mentor teams of Fellows from different areas of the world.

The University Innovation Fellows program is a global program run by Stanford University’s Hasso Plattner Institute of Design (d.school) that empowers student leaders to increase campus engagement with innovation, entrepreneurship, creativity and design thinking. You can read about the program here and about the March 2017 Silicon Valley Meetup here.

  • Computational Fluid Dynamics

    - Present

Development of a computational fluid dynamics code used for simulation of fluidic flow through catalytic aerogels. The code was written in MatLab. The Lattice-Boltzmann method, which is an approximation of the Navier-Stokes Equation, governs the fluid flow of the model. Actual SEM images of aerogels are translated to scrutable datasets that can be manipulated and analyzed by the code.

  • Inspection System for Aircraft Engines

    - Present

The quality of aircraft engines is obviously paramount. At GE, myself and a colleague have designed an inspection system that will be used to inspect aircraft engine blade cooling holes to ensure they are of the highest quality before being put into engines for use. The system will replace a vast number of old, less capable inspection units, and will do so at a very reasonable cost. The systems began implementation into GE Aviation factory locations in early 2017.
