The Growing Burden of Infant Opioid Addiction on Children and Family Services in Massachusetts
Child Maltreatment, SAGE
Infants born to opiate-abusing mothers are straining the social service safety net. In Massachusetts alone, protective services devote nearly 10,000 hours per month to evaluation and placement of these infants. As the American opioid epidemic rages on, large additional investments in child welfare and family services will be necessary.
