We’re facing a literacy crisis in the United States

36 million adults in the United States struggle to read basic sentences — which can make it difficult or impossible to navigate everyday life. Over 100 million people read below a 6th grade level.

The Barbara Bush Foundation is building a future where more people can navigate the world with dignity.

The CorStone Center for Personal Resilience (CPR) develops and implements resilience-based interventions and research initiatives to improve the health, education, and self-sufficiency of marginalized adults and youth around the world.

Bay Area Mountain Rescue Unit is an MRA certified volunteer wilderness search and rescue team specialized for operations involving difficult terrain, challenging weather conditions, or high altitude. The team is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and operate throughout California.

Original member of IGNITE; helped to accelerate the program which is focused on increasing the number of girls pursuing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

Spoke to girls at middle and high schools about the exciting possibilities of tech careers. Enrollment in Cisco Networking Academies went from 10% to 50% female participation after our first year of classroom presentations.

Monthly visits with our amazing friend, Martha, who was in her 90s. We had lunch, celebrated holidays, and went on field trips around the city. She lived an amazing life - traveled the world by herself when few women did. We learned so much from her.
