The Mobile Minds project was born out of the World Economic Forum’s interest in evaluating and solving some of the world’s most pressing issues, including technological advances of The Fourth Industrial Revolution, economic migration, the growing prevalence of cross-border commuting, and the increasing global competition for talent and skilled workers. As it intersects with many of these issues, Mobile Minds is a project of the World Economic Forum’s Global Futures Council on Migration, in collaboration with Remote.co, and led by Rajeeb Dey, Tolu Olubunmi, and Sara Sutton Fell. The goal of Mobile Minds is to explore the global impact of remote work and as it relates to both the mobility of the twenty-first century workforce and workplace, and the white paper details benefits of, and challenges associated with, cross-border remote hiring.

HAVING IT ALL is a documentary about three professional women who set out to live their dreams of balancing career, marriage, and children. Director Vlada Knowlton follows each of their lives for two trying years through unanticipated trade-offs, painful sacrifices, and routinely overlooked yet ubiquitously endured experiences of today’s working parents. The documentary examines how each woman finds herself with a changed life and a changed idea of what HAVING IT ALL really means.

  • Webinar: Making Flexibility Work

    Catalyst

Yesterday’s 9-to-5 office culture is rapidly becoming obsolete. Telecommuting, remote work, and other flexible modes of working are all on the rise. - Present

FlexJobs is very proud to be an official partner of the Department of Defense's MSEP program intended to address the problem that military spouses, while well-educated and highly qualified for a range of careers, face a 24% unemployment rate and a 25% wage gap compared to their civilian counterparts.

Seventy-seven percent of these spouses want or need work, yet frequent relocation is often a barrier to finding and maintaining a rewarding career. The inability of spouses to obtain and retain fulfilling employment as they relocate with the military compromises the quality of life of military families and the readiness of the military force.

FlexJobs both commits to hire military spouses and veterans (currently about 10% of our current employees) as well as to look for other opportunities to help military spouses find remote work which they can "take with them" when they are relocated.

Rural areas lag far behind urban areas in recovery and employment rates overall. One stark reason why rural job seekers haven’t kept pace with their urban counterparts is shrinking opportunity: the job market in rural areas is 4.26% smaller now than in 2008, according to research from the World Economic Forum. One stark reason why rural job seekers haven’t kept pace with their urban counterparts is shrinking opportunity: the job market in rural areas is 4.26% smaller now than in 2008, according to research from the World Economic Forum. Many people who live in rural areas may be looking for traditional, location-based jobs close to home—positions that largely disappeared during the recession and may never come back.

FlexJobs has partnered with Teleworks USA to help bring in new employment opportunities focused on remote and work from home jobs. We believe that remote jobs have the potential to shift the paradigm and make a huge difference in closing the urban vs. rural employment gap.
