    Atlanta CARES is an affiliate of the National CARES Mentoring Movement founded by Susan L. Taylor, editor in chief emeritus of Essence Magazine. It was launched in December 2006, at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, where local faith based leaders, politicians, civic and social leaders convened for the unveiling of Ms. Taylor’s vision to rescue our youth. Upon reviewing and discussing the grim educational statistics of African American children and bringing awareness to the thousands of African American children on the waiting lists of mentoring organizations in Metro Atlanta, these local leaders made a commitment to use their connections and resources to support the recruitment of mentors to salvage the lives of our most vulnerable youth. Atlanta CARES would serve as a model for other CARES Circles across the country. Since 2006, Atlanta CARES, a 501c3 organization, has recruited over 500 mentors each year for our partner mentoring organizations.
