SWARCO INDUSTRIES INC. was founded in 1973 as a manufacturer of reflective glass beads for reflective highway safety applications. In 1979, SWARCO INDUSTRIES expanded its commitment to the highway safety market by introducing a full line of temporary and permanent marking tapes that safely guide traffic through detours, construction zones or high traffic roadways. In 1979, SWARCO INDUSTRIES expanded its commitment to the highway safety market by introducing a full line of temporary and permanent marking tapes that safely guide traffic through detours, construction zones or high traffic roadways. As the demand for better pavement markings and highway safety increased, SWARCO INDUSTRIES introduced its line of durable, environmentally safe thermoplastic marking compounds in 1986. The innovative Rumbler, a unique audible warning system, was added to the product line in 1999.
In 2013, SWARCO contracted with Future Vision Energy to retrofit the lighting is all three of its plants in Columbia, Tennessee. The projected saved them almost 80% on their KWh usage, equating to an annual money savings of over $37,000. That is pretty amazing. They were able to swap out old 1000-watt metal halide canopy lights with 150-watt LED canopy lights. Believe it or not, the light output was exactly what they needed for their plant operations. It is bright, clean, and clear lighting. Of course, with LED technology, their maintenance costs just went to practically zero for the next five years at least.

    PROJECT RESULTS
    • Savings of 79% on KWh annually
    • Savings of over $37,000 per year
    • Simple payback period of only 25 months
    • 194% ROI over five years

While FVE focuses primarily on large commercial spaces for our consultation and project management, occassionally we find a gem of an opportunity in a small office space. Such as the case with Wilda Dodson's Edward Jones Investments office in Gallatin, TN.

This office space is located in historic downtown Gallatin's town square just 28 miles northeast of Nashville. Originally, this building was a bank back in the 1800s and early 1900s. For the past two decades it has housed this Edward Jones Invesments office. While their electric bills were not large, they still spent a considerable amount of money on lighting each year. All of the existing lights were old, inefficient T12s with magnetic ballasts.

As of July 14, 2012, the U.S. manufacture or import of most T12 lamps was barred by the US government. This leaves many businesses like Dodson's in a precarious position. As ballasts and lights go out, she--and many millions like her--will be forced to retrofit the existing fixtures to another kind of light. While T8s are the option many people choose, T8s are also on the federal government's chopping block for a future ban as they did with T12s. Why waste money on upgrading to an endangered technology?

Ms. Dodson made the best choice and chose to hire FVE in 2013 to retrofit her building to the latest and most efficient lighting technology: LEDs. This project saved her almost $650.00 per year. She also received an incentive check from her local utility provider for more than one year's annual savings. This put her payback time at less than one year!

Its commitment to cutting edge healthcare technology has influenced cutting edge energy savings technology as well. They were the first hospital in Tennessee to retrofit to LEDs.

Future Vision Energy retrofitted 2,375 4’ fluorescent bulbs, 313 2’ fluorescent bulbs, and 12 HID exterior lights with low-wattage LED tube lights and LEP lights, reducing the overall lighting energy costs by 47% or $25,177.09 annually. This project eliminated potential mercury hazards in a healthcare setting due to the fact that all fluorescent tubes contain the harmful element Hg (mercury) while LEDs contain no harmful substances. All of the LEDs and LEPs carry a five year manufacturer's warranty as well as a five year labor warranty, eliminating any cost related to lighting for a minimum of five years.

Subsequent to the first phase of retrofit, the hospital invited us back in to also retrofit their canopy lights & wall packs with high efficiency LEDs as well.

Marshall was awarded a TVA EnergyRight Solutions Rebate of almost $25,000 that was used to offset the cost of the project. This project was first completed LED lighting retrofit of any hospital in Tennessee. This is the future of long-lasting, energy-efficient lighting.

City Square Solar Center is located in the heart of Hendersonville, TN, within 20 minutes of downtown Nashville. With over 100,000 sq ft of retail, office, and storage space, they can meet any need. City Square boasts one of the State of Tennessee's largest PV solar energy installations. They have a long history of embracing energy efficiency and sustainable design. They were the first in the area to promote energy efficient lighting, energy auditing, programmable thermostats, and 24/7 electricity timers. Their PV solar energy system generates more than 100,000 KWh per year with 228 state-of-the-art Sunpower 350 PV panels and 9 Fronius inverters. In addition to powering the commerical space, their system also feeds the city's electrical grid with clean power.

In keeping with his commitment to energy conservation, owner Greg Smith hired Future Vision Energy of Gallatin, TN in 2012 to provide a thorough lighting energy audit. Their recommendation included retrofitting almost 100% of their linear fluorescent lighting as well as all of their metal halide and sodium exterior wall packs. The result of the project was an annual savings of over 164,000 Kwh. This would equate to a financial savings of over $22,000 annually, but since they produce most of their own power, they actually made money on this project. How? Because now they can sell even more energy back to the city's electrical grid.

So if your building operates on alternative energy sources, LED lighting might even make more sense for you than some others. Contact us at FVE to find out more.

Future Vision Energy was successful in helping Maury Regional receive an award totaling $150,000 for an LED lighting retrofit, seeking to reduce the overall energy consumed by retrofitting 16,618 4’ fluorescent bulbs and 1,189 2’ fluorescent bulbs with low-wattage LED tube lights. The hospital was previously using 5,308,957 KWh annually with their old lighting; after the project their annual use was reduced to 3,034,678 KWh, representing a 43% savings in energy consumption.

All of his store coolers, freezers, and walk-ins were retrofitted with high efficiency LED tube lamps. This not only made his food cases look better, but delivered a quality light without heat, saving the store thousands of dollars every year. How? Since the coolers and freezers don't have to work hard to compensate for the extra heat generated by the lights, they now only have to work to cool the food. The refrigeration systems run much less, saving electricity.

Richland Place contracted with Future Vision Energy in 2013 to assess their energy consumption as related to their lighting systems and make recommendations to reduce their overall lighting energy costs. An LED retrofit was recommended for all of their common areas and public spaces.

Before the LED project was completed, Richland Place was spending over $53,000 per year in electricity costs on their fluorescent lighting systems. After the project was completed, this cost dropped to under $20,000 annually. In addition, they were able to save another $9,253 per year in maintenance costs related to their out-dated lighting fixtures.

The retirement home and health center look amazing now that the new LED lights are installed. Not only that, but heat in the building has been reduced dramatically due to the removal of the fluorescent ballasts. Most businesses don't realize how much heat is generated by fluorescent and halogen lighting.
