Research study: "Technology Use and Student Engagement in the Classroom."

Research to determine how students in modern, technology-driven classrooms demonstrate active engagement in actual lesson content and activities.

Research showed in classrooms with high levels of technology involved, both high levels of supervision and minimal supervision saw students' actual engagement to lesson content as moderate to minimal in favor of using technology for personal amusement.

Research showed in classrooms with high levels of technology involved, both high levels of supervision and minimal supervision saw students' actual engagement to lesson content as moderate to minimal in favor of using technology for personal amusement.

In scenarios with classrooms with little technology integration or technology is introduced later, students displayed a more active involvement in the classroom activities and lesson content even when technology is brought into use.

Lifelong Scouter. A lot of who I am was molded by my experiences growing up with Scouting. I have had a wonderful time with the organization. With Scouting, I was able to have experiences such as:

⚜️ Being selected as a Swimming Instructor during Scout Summer Camp 1991 at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch.
⚜️ Being handpicked to be a youth leader for a group of Scouts invited to represent Texas and the United States at the 10th National Japanese Scouting Jamboree in Nagoaka, Japan.

⚜️ Selected as one of two youth leaders for a group of Scouts to represent Texas at the 1984 National Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, VA.
⚜️ Led three Scouting groups on 14-day backpacking treks through the Rocky Mountains at Philmont National Scout Ranch in Cimmaron, N.M.
⚜️ Earned the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 12, one of only 14 who had done so that young at the time.

Much of my time in Scouting has always focused on teaching and mentoring my peers and others around me, which has led to how I conduct myself professionally. I still volunteer with my local Scouting branch and will always strive to give back to my community and those around me.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the link between students' engagement in classroom settings where technology use is prevalent. The aim of this study was to determine ways to enhance student technology use in classrooms while remaining on-task rather than misusing technology for entertainment purposes. This study is important as technology is currently driving many educational policies both locally and globally. Participants in this study were pre-service and full-time teachers in local public and charter schools who contributed data via two online surveys. The two surveys administered were an initial technology familiarity survey, and a primary survey consisting of multiple choice, Likert scale, and open ended questions. Results from the familiarity survey found that students' knowledge of technology is exceedingly higher than that of their teachers. The primary survey demonstrated that students do appear more engaged in classrooms when allowed to use technology, but often quickly begin using technology for other entertainment purposes. As research into technology and student engagement in a classroom is limited, future research which could target specific grade levels or age ranges may allow for a more in depth examination of this topic.

Assessing the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) Test.

The goal of this paper is to illustrate the shortcomings and pitfalls involved with the TAKS test, and demonstrate failures of the Texas educational system to operate in the best interest of the children attending its schools. To this end, different avenues of thought are required in order to see and assess the broad picture of change necessary to accomplish this goal. Understandings and compromises between education, economics, and psychology are vital in order to bring about positive and lasting change to a system of thought that has fallen into not only financial ruin, but moral collapse as well.
