Joseph Baker Award
Aquinas College
The Joseph Baker Award is given annually to the most outstanding male student-athletes. Candidates are nominated by the College coaching staff and selected by the Aquinas Alumni Board. The Baker Award was initiated in 1958 to honor the top senior male athlete.
Joseph Baker was active in all sports while attending St. Joseph High School in Muskegon, Michigan. After he graduated, he took a position at Shaw-Walker Company with his brother, Henry. Joseph offered his services as a coach at…The Joseph Baker Award is given annually to the most outstanding male student-athletes. Joseph Baker was active in all sports while attending St. Joseph High School in Muskegon, Michigan. After he graduated, he took a position at Shaw-Walker Company with his brother, Henry. Joseph offered his services as a coach at St. Joseph. After serving in the Army in World War II, he came to Aquinas College and graduated in 1950. Baker and his wife, Carolyn, had three children: Thomas, Joseph and Therese. Joseph was head coach at Aquinas College in basketball, baseball and also served as Athletic Director. Baker died in June, 1957.
