  • Storing, Indexing and Querying Large Provenance Data Sets as RDF Graphs in Apache HBase

    Proceedings of the 7th IEEE International Workshop on Scientific Workflows

    In this paper, we explore and address the challenge of efficient and scalable storage and querying of large collections of provenance graphs serialized as RDF graphs in an Apache HBase database. We propose novel storage and indexing techniques for RDF data in HBase that are better suited for provenance datasets rather than generic RDF graphs.

  • Distributed Storage and Querying Techniques for a Semantic Web of Scientific Workflow Provenance

    Proceedings of the 7th IEEE International Conference on Services Computing

    In this paper, we research how HBase can be leveraged for distributed storage and querying of provenance data represented in RDF. In particular, we modify the architecture of the ProvBase system to incorporate an HBase/Hadoop backend, propose a storage schema to hold provenance triples, and design querying algorithms to evaluate SPARQL queries in the system. Using the Third Provenance Challenge queries, we conduct an experimental study to show the feasibility of our approach.

  • Supporting Geosciences Web Services Metadata Management and Discovery

    Proceedings of the 7th IEEE International Conference on Services Computing

    In this paper, we discuss the poor query performance of existing RDF storage systems and our system, called S2ST, which addresses this issue in the context of geosciences web services metadata management. We also review the results of our experiments, which show that S2ST provides better SPARQL performance than existing relational RDF storage systems.

    This paper describes an ontology for Web Services annotation and elaborates on the wiki implementation and design of a relational RDF repository for the GEO-SEED portal. It also presents the results of the usability and performance studies for the project, reporting on both human-effectiveness and machine-efficiency for knowledge collection, sharing, storing, and querying.
