Having over 30 years in IT I’ve definitely seen it transition and transformation change how we are doing things today. Degrees have importance but hands on experience is still important equally important to be successful in broad arena of IT!! As for me I’m a continuous learning and have sought out courses and formal training from my employer and outside resources!!! You have to stretch yourself and continue to learn as well as gain hands on experience!!! Resources like LinkedIn, Udacity and Cousera have all been helpful in my journey in the continuing learning and evolving tech industries!!!!

Would definitely agree with conducting research and understanding your target audience and trends in the industry. Last I’d say making sure it’s not already over saturated in the industry at this time.

It’s been three years since I been in my Transport Center role and many of the tools used to monitor the network were a bit antiquated. I’m certain as others may have mentioned that drill down and provide information pertinent for network performance. I always tried to be proactive with the tools and if I saw a trend or pattern I flagged for maintenance to do more extensive troubleshooting to determine the alarm faults I was seeing and determine if components needed replacing. I’m certain many vendors are advertising tools and resources to call centers that help with bandwidth and surveillance monitoring.

Everything mentioned by George and career clarity. Be open to new IT and always be willing to learn!!! Networking is very important and reaching out for 15 minutes of virtual latte.

I tailored my resumes for the job posting and my experience in that field or industry. I make sure I meet 70% of what they are looking for in a candidate. Before I was a one resume person and later learned I must tailor my resume. Last if you land an interview make sure you research and ask questions. Never say you don’t have questions. I think AI questions are good questions and if there are projects in work with AI.

As a once supervising manager as technology evolved I’ve encouraged my subordinates and peers to learn what’s new and stay ahead of the curve. I’ve used Cousera and other training sources to learn about Cloud Computing and how it can be instrumental in my development and IT platforms I manage. Nonetheless, pros and cons along with savings.
