The group is comprised of distinguished former government, military and private sector leaders sharing a common interest in Veterans health and wellness.

"Each member of our VA Advisory Group brings exceptional knowledge and experience, which will help us deliver a seamless care experience for our nation's veterans," said Travis Dalton, senior vice president, Cerner. "As we work with VA to modernize its health record system, the incredibly accomplished members of this group will provide advice and guidance on our approach to improving every veterans' experience across the system of care - both within VA and with community providers."

The VA Advisory Group is chaired by former U.S. Senator and Nebraska Governor Bob Kerrey, a U.S. Navy Veteran. Kerrey served in Vietnam as a U.S. Navy SEAL, and was awarded the Medal of Honor for heroism in combat.

"Our Veterans deserve continuous access to their medical records while in the service and afterward, whether they are seen in VA or a private health care system," said Kerrey. "I received years of treatment from VA and have firsthand experience with the challenges veterans often face when receiving care. I am honored to lead this Advisory Group supporting meaningful improvement in caring for veterans."

The Blue Star Families 2010 Military Family Lifestyle Survey was designed to reveal key trends in military family relationships, family life, and careers by examining, among other things, feelings of stress, levels of communication and engagement, and effects of operational tempo. Respondents included spouses, parents, service members, and military children and represented locations across the United States, as well as overseas military installations.

The 2010 Military Lifestyle Survey found that, on the whole, military families are experiencing high levels of stress but are coping. While military families feel more support from the community as compared to last year's survey, they still feel as though there is a gap in understanding between military and civilian communities. Several key areas of concern were noted in the survey including: the current operational tempo, the effect of deployments on children, children’s education, financial issues, and spouse employment.
