“Victor is a very smart, methodical, and logical individual. He has a genuine thirst for knowledge and always thinks through alternative solutions to a problem. I worked with Victor on various computer science projects and I’ve enjoyed thinking through algorithms with him. In the process I’ve observed his vibrant decision making approach and was impressed with his ability to grasp abstract concepts and synthesize them into tangible software solutions. Since graduating from the St. Mary’s College of Maryland we kept in touch and exchanged software engineering experiences. Victor understands the human aspects of software engineering – an intricate trait that is paramount to any successful large scale software centric engineering endeavor. I would gladly work with Victor again and I highly recommend Victor as a very effective, intelligent, and productive team member. If you subscribe to Jim Collin’s “Good to Great” concept, then Victor should be one of the people to get on your “bus”.”

Analysis of Predictors of Opioid-Free Analgesia for Management of Acute Post-Surgical Pain in the United States
Current Medical Research and Opinion
Utilization of opioid-free analgesia (OFA) for post-surgical pain is a growing trend to counter the risks of opioid abuse and opioid-related adverse drug events (ORADEs). However, utilization patterns of OFA have not been examined. In this study, we investigated the utilization patterns and predictors of OFA in a surgical population in the United States.

Reduction in laboratory turnaround time decreases emergency room length of stay
Open Access Emergency Medicine (OAEM)
Laboratory tests are an important contributor to treatment decisions in the emergency department (ED). Rapid turnaround of laboratory tests can optimize ED throughout by reducing the length of stay (LOS) and improving patient outcomes. Despite evidence supporting the effect of shorter turnaround time (TAT) on LOS and outcomes, there is still a lack of large retrospective studies examining these associations. Here, we evaluated the effect of a reduction in laboratory TAT on ED LOS using…

ANNALS EXPRESS: The economic impact of poor sample quality in clinical chemistry laboratories: results from a global survey
Annals of clinical biochemistry
Despite advances in clinical chemistry testing, poor blood sample quality continues to impact laboratory operations and the quality of results. While previous studies have identified pre-analytical causes of lower sample quality, few studies have examined the economic impact of poor sample quality on the laboratory. Specifically, the costs associated with workarounds related to fibrin and gel contaminants remain largely unexplored.

Costs Associated with Choice of Perioperative Intravenous Crystalloid among Adults Undergoing Cardiac Surgery
Value in Health
Patients undergoing cardiac surgery (CS) routinely receive intravenous (IV) crystalloids perioperatively (during and immediately post-surgery). A study using a large US electronic health record database, reported an association between the use of low-chloride IV crystalloids and improved outcomes. Here we examine the association between perioperative crystalloid choice and treatment costs among adults undergoing CS.
