Many of the questions asked when selecting corporate software are asked in this fashion: “What is the best software for [Fill-in type]”. This is the wrong question; whose answers will invariably yield poor results. There is a reason that most major enterprise system implementations don't fully meet their primary objectives and come in over budget. The right question is: "What is the best software for [fill in the blank] the particular needs or our products/people/processes and our company at this point in time and the reasonably predictable future?" This requires significant self-knowledge, process and introspection.

This course provides an Overview for the project-sponsoring-execs (e.g. the CFO, Controller, VP of Finance) and an in-depth discussion for the actual teams involved in the process to provide a best practice approach to the acquisition of new software for the finance, accounting or related enterprise functions.

  • Even in times of oversupply, paying a realistic wage makes good business sense.

    SBA * Consulting LTD Blog

The concept of supply-and-demand in a purely academic fashion makes sense here—Oversupply leads to lower prices, higher demand increases prices, and scarcity of product come higher prices and with a fall-off of demand prices go down—but there is a real-world wrinkle.

  • The Safety Element in Managing Risks Associated with Volunteers

    International Association of Emergency Managers

Risk management is a logical process or approach that seeks to
eliminate or at least minimize the level of risk associated with a
business operation. Essentially, the process identifies any type of situation that could result in damage to any resource within the
possession of the company, including personnel, then takes steps to correct factors that are highly likely to result in that damage.

  • How should the business owner work with a CPA or CPA practice?

    Focus.com

Many small and mid-size companies complain about their Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Their complaint centers on the fact that their CPA never quite learns their business. Is this necessarily a bad thing?

It depends on what you believe the role of your CPA should be, and in fact what the CPA feels there role actually is. It is this mis-communication that brings disassociation of purpose and leads to the business owner finding a new CPA.

People who live and work along the world's coastlines have, for centuries, answered distress signals of those whose lives have been endangered on the sea. There is an affinity, an unspoken allegiance, among such individuals that has prompted immediate, almost instinctive response to trouble at sea. People who live and work along the world's coastlines have, for centuries, answered distress signals of those whose lives have been endangered on the sea. There is an affinity, an unspoken allegiance, among such individuals that has prompted immediate, almost instinctive response to trouble at sea. In many countries around the world, the people who unselfishly and without hesitation risk their own lives to save others, are volunteers. Voluntary sea rescue organizations range in size from small services, such as Rescue 15 in Prince Rupert, B.C., Canada, with one craft, to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, which operates a fleet of 290 boats from more than 200 lifeboat stations. In 1976, to address the needs of rescue organizations around the world to raise funds, exchange information and provide co-operation, a group of American professional seamen and business men formed the Association for Rescue at Sea (AFRAS). How to reach both potential recipients and donors was the issue at hand when I joined AFRAS. To assist them with their goals I helped them move to the Internet, social media and other information technologies, as the CIO. As a Board Member I help develop those same goals. http://www.afras.org/ and on FaceBook at: https://www.facebook.com/afras.org

Through the USCG's Office of the Director, First Coast Guard District Southern Region I am the Program Director and Chief Instructor of the Small Boat Course for Local Law Enforcement. Over the last six classes (years) we have taught seamanship, navigation, and boating safety with an 80 hour hands-on, in-the-classroom and on-the-water boating course to over 175 PAPD police officers and supervisors. Courses that are being discussed include a hands-on workshop on the use of RADAR in the small boat and Cold Water operations. The officers and boats of JFK and La Guardia Airports are designed to be Life Raft Distribution Vessels to planes that find themselves water-bound. To that end, the Marine Unit at La Guardia Airport responded to US Airways Flight 1549 which landed in the Hudson River, January 15th, 2009. In 2013 we have added a 4-day workshop that brings those prior graduates up to date with new training requirements issued by the FAA. Included are towing, the use of marine RADAR and plotting and executing search patterns. To date we have run the classroom portion of two courses, On-the-water training is scheduled for mid-June.
