Here's how you can avoid burnout by setting realistic goals and expectations as a public speaker.
You don't need to say "YES" to every opportunity. Consider where you are with other obligations, and how the preparation and potential travel will impact your overall well-being. If you are being invited to speak on a subject that you feel is not your strength, and/or not an area of great interest, it is OK to pass! Consider your audience, is it likely to be an audience you will enjoy speaking for or will this audience be likely to create a lot of pressure to perform and/or stress? Just do it, does not always apply! Consider the benefits of the engagement short and long term professional goals. Adding experiential components to presentations allows you to put the spotlight on the audience, giving you a break and increasing engagement.

Here's how you can cultivate composure and calmness in challenging situations through mindfulness.
In the immediate moment... breathe, breathe, and breathe again. Allowing our self to pause and breathe gives us space between thought, feeling, and behavior. When composure is needed, this implies emotions have become intense. To get back to mindfulness, sometimes a brief walk can be grounding... alternatively some basic stretches can help us bring wise mind back into a position of support. Forgive yourself for being imperfect in tough situations. It is not always easy to "gain composure". Above all, try to avoid lashing out verbally in times of intensity, for words that hurt can lead to long term ramifications.
