VIDA is a nonprofit humanitarian association that helps to empower individuals and provides free medical, dental, and veterinary assistance to needy communities to improve quality of life by offering volunteers from around the world hands-on, eye-opening, mind-enriching experiences. As a volunteer, I actively participated with an emphasis in a "hands on" experience in the following areas during my trip to Guatemala:
1. Patient interviews along with a thorough patient history as well as…VIDA is a nonprofit humanitarian association that helps to empower individuals and provides free medical, dental, and veterinary assistance to needy communities to improve quality of life by offering volunteers from around the world hands-on, eye-opening, mind-enriching experiences. As a volunteer, I actively participated with an emphasis in a "hands on" experience in the following areas during my trip to Guatemala:
1. Patient interviews along with a thorough patient history as well as patient vital signs.
2. Performed basic physical exams and assessments. This includes blood sugar monitoring, quick strip urinalysis, etc.
3. Assisted with pre-natal wellness checkups on expectant mothers.
4. Presented patient information to Medical staff along with differential diagnosis and proposed treatment plan recommendations.
5. Performed public health screenings and community education discussions to help promote public awareness when appropriate via translators.
6. Lastly, helped manage the pharmacy as well as the medical record area during field clinics.
