If you’re leading Scrum Teams or are a leader in an organization leveraging Scrum, the Scrum Guide Companion for Leaders is for you. It looks at the different elements of Scrum and reflects on an effective way for leaders to engage with that element. There are many definitions of leadership that apply to the use of Scrum. Leaders are both inside and outside of the Scrum Team. Everyone performs with some level of leadership. However, this Guide is focused on people who are outside of the Scrum Team. For example, HR Managers, Project and Program Managers and Departmental Heads.

If you are an executive leader, then we suggest you read the first section as it will provide context for how Scrum works in your organization.

Structure of this companion: • What Scrum means for you as a leader • How to create the conditions in which Scrum can thrive • How leaders can support the Scrum accountabilities, artifacts and events

In this whitepaper we explore how you can lead your organization towards more effectively tackling complex challenges and opportunities using Scrum's theory, accountabilities, events and artifacts. Hopefully you find the outside-in perspective focusing on the leader's role useful. Now it's your turn. Your people need your help in creating the conditions in which Scrum can thrive.

This advanced guidance article describes using Lean-Agile practices and principles to create a more sustainable and inclusive adoption of SAFe - Using SAFe principles to adopt SAFe. We’re asking leaders to set the vision/direction for implementing SAFe and inviting their people to come on board and participate in designing this change that will have so much positive impact on how work will be performed in the future. Decentralizing control and engaging as many people as possible in figuring out how to use SAFe tends to improve the quality of SAFe implementation because of ‘Wisdom of the Crowds’ and the higher motivation people have when they’re invited to be involved. This applies to leaders at various levels using the SAFe Implementation Workshop that complements Leading SAFe training and to teams and ART stakeholders using vignettes like pains/vision mapping, implementation confidence votes, and risk ROAMing in each and every SAFe training used to prepare and launch SAFe in ARTs/VSs.
