Administrative Assistant I/HR Assistant

Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs , and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

Position: Human Resources Assistant (Hybrid Remote)

The Human Resources Assistant is responsible for all the necessary tasks to ensure the continuous performance of the human resources office management functions. Deals with information of a sensitive and confidential nature.

Location: 135 West 50 th Street

  • New York, NY 10020

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED plus two years’ experience in a related field, or satisfactory combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, business writing skills, the ability to work well with others, and prioritize and take initiative are essential.
  • Proficiency in word-processing and spreadsheet applications as well as strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain confidentiality is required.

Human Resources Assistant Principal Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day office functions.
  • Assist in comprehensive employment recruitment program, including pre-employment and onboarding.
  • Work independently on special nonrecurring and ongoing projects.
  • Handle confidential and non-routine information and explain procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining, tracking, and reporting of HRIS data including managing filing system of personnel records.
  • Assist in managing training and continuous learning, including enrollments, notifications, calendaring, and reporting through HRIS.
