Asset Management Analyst Trainee (2025 Graduates)

This a 12-month, hands-on trainee program offering participants the opportunity to learn about different areas of the business, participate day-to-day in assigned responsibilities and projects and develop professional relationships, while also receiving training and mentorship from the AEW Team.

Main Purpose of the Role

The following are the main responsibilities for the Asset Management Analyst Trainee.

Responsibilities

  • Supports Asset Manager in Private Equity Group on assets through cash flow modeling, competitive analysis, research analysis and annual business plan/budgets.
  • Work with team members on assigned portfolio of assets comprised of more than one product type in various geographies working for multiple asset managers providing well rounded exposure to assets across the risk spectrum.
  • Assist in providing day-to-day oversight of property operations and coordination with the third-party operators and joint venture partners.
  • Participate in the preparation and execution of Portfolio and Property Business Plans to optimize investment performance, prepare hold/sell analysis and maximize investment returns.
  • Participate in property-level decisions with the Portfolio Managers based on careful analysis and team input, including hold/sell, leasing strategy, rent pricing, property budgets, and capital expenditures
  • Assist property dispositions and refinancing opportunities alongside joint venture partners and AEW team members and third-party legal counsel.
  • Assist acquisitions team in due diligence and effectively onboard new acquisitions
  • Perform asset-level valuation reviews including property performance and capital deployment effectiveness as assigned.
  • Develop excellent working relationships with all team members including JV partners, property managers, project managers, and third parties
  • Participate in review of loan and lease documents, lease abstracts, operating and vendor agreements.
  • Prepare financial models, property reporting packages as well as quarterly and annual internal and external reports for the portfolio
  • Communicate investment status and plan to senior management.
  • Visit markets and properties to validate business plan assumptions, monitor property operations, and identify opportunities and issues to improve operations.
  • Share accountability for budgeted results and support the budget versus actual analysis.
  • Stay informed on market information and work with AEW’s Research team to stay abreast of their viewpoint and recommendations for each market.

Skills/Experience

  • BS/BA and a strong academic record with emphasis in any of the following: real estate, finance, accounting, economics, and/or policy & planning preferred.
  • Prior internship or other real estate related experience preferred
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Knowledge of accounting and finance principles
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) required
  • Exposure to financial modeling with Excel and Argus as well as general quantitative skills preferred

Compensation

At AEW, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The base pay for this role is between $60,000 and $70,000 per year. Your actual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, internal equity, and market conditions. Additional compensation and perks include:
