Job Summary

As a Bakery Department Manager you are responsible for providing a well-stocked and well-maintained department while providing superior customer service. You will prepare, package, and merchandise fresh or frozen bakery product daily, while maintaining all department and food safety/sanitation standards.

Summary Of Essential Job Functions

  • Provide exceptional customer service by greeting and assisting customers and responding to customer inquiries and complaints.
  • Evaluate product quality, quantity, signage and displays.
  • Record production and shrink to aid in production planning
  • Order and manage inventory for bakery department.
  • Keep shelves faced, fully stocked, and fresh.
  • Cull products for poor quality, expiration dates
  • Work closely with the Bakery Buyer on bakery specials, floor displays and product ordering.
  • Oversee the receiving of products and check invoices for correct product, quantity, and quality upon arrival.
  • Maintain the department appearance, cleanliness, and comply with federal, state, and local perishables regulations
  • Develop a weekly cleaning schedule.
  • Supervise, train, coach, and motivate department team members, and encourage them to take positive action and accountability for their work.
  • Accurately complete paperwork and logs throughout the day (ex. shrink log, transfer log).
  • Communicate immediately to the vendor/company if the delivered product is sub-par, wrong, incorrect count, or for any other discrepancies.
  • Ensure products are stored properly in a timely manner.
  • Review inventory and sales records to prepare reports for accounting and budgeting departments.
  • Perform other special projects and duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including holidays and weekends
  • Timely and consistent attendance

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multitask and use organizational skills
  • Cake decorating experience preferred.
  • Grocery, market, retail or restaurant management experience preferred.
