Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst

Job Description

We are seeking a BI Analyst to join our growing Business Intelligence team. The role reports into the Director of BI and Analytics and will play a pivotal role in driving data backed decision making. You will be responsible for assisting in the creation and enhancement of Power BI reporting to meet the needs of the entire organization. You will also help manage SPS Commerce point-of-sales (POS) data and conduct sell-through analysis for key external wholesale partners. Additionally, you will ensure data consistency and governance, maintaining high-quality standards across all organizational data, to include partnering with third-party technical consultants to maintain data lineage and documentation across the data warehouse and NetSuite ERP.

General Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develops dynamic, easily digestible, and visually appealing Power BI reports and dashboards that provide actionable insights to stakeholders. Utilize both the suggested and custom visuals in the design phase to convey the meaning of the data, keeping in mind how decisions will be made by end users – visuals will include various charts, matrices, cards, maps, KPI scorecards, etc…
    • Leverage the data warehouse to develop new time intelligence reporting capabilities with accumulated daily snapshots of key metrics.
  • Collaborates and builds relationships with cross-functional teams to understand their data requirements, ensuring reporting tools meet those requirements.
  • Continuously improves and optimizes existing Power BI reports and dashboards based on feedback and changing business needs.
    • This includes optimizing Power BI data models through use of M formula language and data analysis expressions (DAX).
  • Works closely with third-party technical consultants to maintain and optimize the views in the data warehouse, including documentation and data lineage of new fields.
  • Works closely with the NetSuite admin team and third-party consultants to conduct quality checks between Power BI and the ERP to identify and rectify data inconsistencies or errors. Attention to detail is critical here in building trust throughout the organization by ensuring any data that is published is thoroughly audited. Use best practice data auditing techniques to streamline this process.
  • Utilizes SPS Commerce POS analytics tools to analyze sell-through data, identifying trends, opportunities, and potential risks.
  • Automates sell-through reporting by building out a process to ingest external POS data into the data warehouse.
    • Once established, develop new reporting capabilities that combine sell-in and sell-through metrics, allowing for a more holistic analysis of the sales lifecycle.
  • Manages SPS Commerce through maintenance of active retailers and onboarding of new retailers.
    • This includes managing data transmission issues with active accounts and auditing new retailer POS data. Partner with SPS technical support and internal/external sales team to ensure data fed through SPS Commerce matches up with buyer reports from the retailer’s ERP. Calendar alignment is also critical here to allow for aggregation across retailers needed to build out robust sales/market channel reporting.
  • Cultivates a self-service analytical culture where all decisions are made using data.
    • This includes training and organizing reoccurring meetings to gather user feedback.
  • Works on ad hoc reporting requests and special projects for senior leadership.
  • Identifies and helps implement best in class AI tools, with focus on predictive analytics which will help teams with predicting various outputs.
  • Manages the administrative side of Power BI by issuing licenses to new users, assigning the correct user group, setting up security parameters, and training.
  • Stay up to date with the latest Power BI updates to ensure the tool is continuously optimized.
Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of Education, training, and minimum 2-4 years work experience.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • 2+ years proven experience in an analytics based role.
  • Strong analytical skills, with ability to extract data and transform it into actionable insights.
  • Proficient in Power BI or similar data visualization software such as Tableau, Microstrategy, QlikView, etc…
    • Including Power Query/M language and DAX if experience is with Power BI.
  • Familiarity with data modeling, relational databases, and ETL processes preferred.
  • Detail-oriented approach to data validation and quality assurance.
  • Proficient in Excel.
  • Familiarity with SQL preferred.
  • Familiarity with SPS Commerce and analyzing sell-through metrics preferred.
  • Experience working for a company that produces and sells a physical product preferred.
In Irvine, CA the salary range for this position is $77,000 - $90,000, which represents base pay only and does not include short-term or long-term incentive compensation. This salary range is specific to Irvine and may not be applicable to other locations. When determining base pay, as part of a final compensation package, we consider several factors such as location, experience, qualifications, and training.
