Chart Correction Coordinator

Description

JOB PURPOSE:

Maintains the integrity of the Master Patient Index (MPI) by monitoring and correcting duplicate patient

medical record numbers (MRN). Audits clinical entries to ensure that Joint Commission Information

Management and Record of Care standards are met.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and perform procedures for identifying individuals with more than one medical record
  
  

number or medical record numbers applied to more than one patient.

• Perform extensive research to resolve duplicate medical record numbers.
• Maintain and perform procedures for selecting the surviving medical record numbers and merging
  
  

duplicate numbers and/or transferring encounters.

• Maintain communication with other departments of duplicates and surviving numbers to assure
  
  

synchronization of systems throughout the organization.

• Validate patient information for data integrity during and following scheduled and unexpected
  
  

downtime.

• Works closely with patient registration, patient financial services and information systems to
  
  

resolve issues arising from duplicate or erroneous MPI data.

• Informs Chart Correction Manager of MPI errors that have/had the potential to jeopardize patient
  
  

safety or compromise care.

Ability to work as a member of a team.

Skill and ability in Microsoft Office applications.

Experience working with clinical information systems and MPI or EMPI maintenance.

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Bachelors or Associates degree in Health Information Management or five (5) years of experience in

MPI maintenance in lieu of education.

Minimum Experience Required

Two (2) years experience in a Health Information Management Department or Information Systems.

Minimum Licensure/Certification Required By Law

N/A.

Additional Qualifications

Experience working with clinical information systems and MPI or EMPI maintenance preferred. RHIA or
