About This Position

Are you an experienced instructional designer passionate about creating engaging and impactful online learning experiences for capacity building?

We are seeking an experienced instructional designer to coordinate the design and development of capacity-building training to be delivered as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)

in collaboration with IDB’s sectoral specialists. A key part of your role will be to ensure that all educational initiatives contribute to IDB’s overarching goals. You will work at the Inter-American Institute for Economic and Social Development (INDES), which is an integral part of the Knowledge, Innovation, and Communication Sector (KIC) of the IDB.

This team's mission is to empower individuals through knowledge and learning tools to enhance capacity building within the regions we serve. We focus on increasing knowledge and strengthening

the skills of target audiences in Latin America and the Caribbean, including IDB employees, to address the region’s vulnerabilities and unlock its potential to foster transformative social and economic

progress while actively combating climate change.

What You’ll Do

  • Coordinate the end-to-end MOOC development process, from initial conceptualization tailored to sector-specific needs through to course deployment, ensuring alignment with the strategic goals of strengthening capacity for external IDB stakeholders.
  • Work closely with sectoral specialists to design learning experiences, utilizing adult learning theories and cutting-edge e-learning technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence and digital accessibility, to ensure courses are engaging, innovative, and effectively address the region's most pressing sectoral challenges.
  • Facilitate workshops and brainstorming sessions with subject matter experts to foster a multidisciplinary approach in learning needs assessment and course content design, ensuring relevance and alignment with the IDB’s institutional strategies.
  • Support the development and implementation of robust mechanisms to measure the effectiveness and impact of the MOOCs, using both qualitative and quantitative methods, to guide continuous improvement and ensure alignment with broader institutional goals and KPIs.
  • Stay informed of the latest trends in e-learning and instructional technologies. Propose and implement innovative solutions that enhance learning experiences and contribute to the bank’s goals.
  • Support the financial and procurement responsibilities related to MOOCs' development cycle, such as overseeing financial management, resource allocation for production, deliverable quality, and supervising external consultants to ensure efficient execution.
  • Coordinate the management of continuous improvement of business processes and quality standards related to course creation.
  • Support the coordination of specialized editions of MOOCs as SPOCs for governments.
  • Support the coordination of the Coursera scholarship program, co-funded with IDB's country offices, ensuring these editions address specific sectoral topics for diverse audiences and are effective delivery.
  • Undertake any other specific activities related to this Terms of Reference regarding MOOC design, production, implementation, impact evaluation, and MOOC actualizations.

What You'll Need

  • Education: Master’s degree in pedagogy, social sciences, Adult Education, Instructional Design, Psychology, or a related field. It is a plus to hold a certification in e-learning or lifelong learning.
  • Experience: At least 7 years of professional experience, of which at least 3 years of proven experience in instructional design, specifically in developing MOOCs focused on social and economic topics.
  • Languages: Proficiency in Spanish and English, spoken and written, is required. Additional knowledge of French and Portuguese is preferable.

Requirements

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

  • Type of contract: International Consultant Full-Time.
  • Length of contract: 19 months.
