COORDINATOR, HEALTH & SAFETY

POSITION GOAL

To ensure the School District is compliant with applicable federal, state, and local laws pertaining to health and safety to protect the well-being of people and the environment.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • An earned bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene, environmental science, environmental engineering or comparable applied or natural science discipline.
  • A minimum of five (5) years in the field related to the title of the position in an educational institution or other large organization.
  • Possession of one or more of the following certifications: Certified Safety Professional (BCSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (ABIH), Associate Safety Professional (BCSP), Graduate Safety Professional (BCSP), or Master Safety Professional (NASP).
  • Possess a high level of technical expertise and knowledge of the health and safety needs in a large complex organization.
  • Experience in conducting and/or supervising safety related inspections providing guidance, technical expertise, and corrective action on safety related inspections.
  • Good communication skills, attention to detail, and an approach focused on problem solving to support the District’s goal of continuous improvement.
  • Computer skills as required for the position.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • An earned master’s degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, environmental engineering or comparable applied or natural science discipline.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years, in the field of occupational health, safety, environmental science or environmental engineering.
  • Possession of a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPS) title from the National Recreation and Park Association and/or other voluntary certifications applicable to playground and child safety.
  • Possession of an additional health & safety industry specific certification by a nationally accepted agency.
  • Bilingual skills

SIGNIFICANT CONTACTS-frequency, contact, purpose

Works with Director, Environmental Health & Safety, municipalities, and school/community groups to support a positive and safe school environment.

Physical Requirements

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
