CORPORATE DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING

As Director of Corporate Engineering, you are responsible for all areas related to Hotel Maintenance and Repair. Through strategic planning and interaction with Operations leaders you will oversee the Preventative Maintenance program and compliance standards, staff training, all life/safety system enforcement agency requirements, capital improvement guidance and input. In addition, you will partner with owner representatives on resolving engineering related issues, and lead natural catastrophe recovery efforts, expense controls, and talent management. You will be responsible for ensuring all hotels are continuously maintained at exacting standards and all hotels pass company and brand audits

  • Regular hotel visits to ensure that all aspects of the business are running smoothly and that you are connecting with the on-property teams.
  • Proactively develop strong relationships with third-party hotel ownership/asset managers with emphasis on partnership, goal alignment, and provide coaching/support for your teams to do the same.
  • Support the Operations leadership in utility and engineering cost analysis, review and research, and presentation to ownership groups.
  • Supply technical guidance, suggestions, and expertise to local operations teams as well as senior management.
  • Recruit, develop, and evaluate management talent to maintain a full pipeline for upcoming openings.
  • Provide the on property engineering teams with operational support, ongoing coaching, professional development, quarterly check-ins, and ensure accountability with a focus on succession planning.
  • Lead and support annual budget and capital planning.
  • Play an active role during the pre and post transitioning/opening of new hotels including hiring/recruiting and training
  • Evaluate third party maintenance agreements and warranties (where they exist) and play key role in negotiating the best possible price/service terms and monitor with proper follow up with vendors
  • Monitor all Out of Order Rooms, identifying any issues with timeliness of rooms returning to service, addressing with appropriate Operations Leaders while also evaluating for trends with appropriate actions to prevent unnecessary recurrence.
  • Oversee and responsible for Preventative Maintenance Program.

Requirements

  • 5+ years as single property Chief Engineer
  • 5+ years of multi-unit engineering responsibility
  • Hilton and Marriott experience preferred
  • Experienced with Automated Preventative Maintenance systems.
  • Extensive working knowledge of hotel Engineering and consistent record of success
  • Strong negotiation skills as well as strong verbal and written communication capabilities
  • Exceptional understanding of fundamental hotel mechanical systems, to include electrical, plumbing, HVAC, elevators, fire enunciator and suppression systems.
  • Strong command of financial statements and ability to understand, interpret and analyze financial and cost management data
  • Experienced working with Energy management systems in addition to evaluating energy savings initiatives and results
  • Strong understanding of code compliance regulations
  • Well-organized initiative-taker with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • 50-75% travel required
