Corporate Food Technology Sensory Scientist

JOB DESCRIPTION


Provide leadership on internal sensory panels and protocols for Kroger Corporate Brand products. Assist manager, Sensory Services to maintain all sensory panels. Provide leadership and training to technicians on sensory software. Perform all jobs safely, efficiently and accurately to maintain and improve the performance of the entire plant in the areas of Safety, Quality, Reliability (SQR). RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with CFT manager and sensory technician in coordinating, conducting and reporting sensory activities for Kroger Enterprise products
  • Handle internal panels when sensory technician is unavailable
  • Assist with surveying and conducting out-of-the ordinary panel situations
  • Attend cuttings and assist with home use tests when the CFT manager/senior sensory scientist is unavailable; provide final determination of panel protocols in unusual cases in conjunction with the project team
  • Work with outside panel locations on routine panel requests, allowing the manager to work more closely with CFT and Corporate Brands on product evaluation strategies for innovative categories and products
  • Learn, implement and manage any new features of the sensory software that will benefit the paneling process
  • Visit and observe protocols at outside panel locations as needed
  • Handle invoices for the entire department, assuring prompt delivery of invoices to Accounting
  • Work with the CFT Manager and Sr. Sensory Scientist to expand the panelist database
  • Follow established programs, policies and practices to produce safe quality foods that meet regulatory and company requirements
  • Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the SQF 2000 Systems

QUALIFICATIONS


MINIMUM

  • Bachelor's Degree in food science, statistics or related fields
  • 2+ years of experience in a food-related position or industry
  • Functional knowledge and use of Microsoft products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, as well as Internet Explorer; ability to learn and become proficient with Compusense sensory software
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, project planning, problem solving and execution
  • Strong attention to detail, with high degree of accuracy and precision
  • Strong critical thinking skills


DESIRED

  • 3+ years of experience in Sensory, Product Development or CTP food-related position
  • Any plant experience in Quality Assurance, Technical Service and/or Production
