D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments: Associate Director, Deputy Director, or Director – Strategy (New York)

Overview

D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments (“DESRI”) seeks a resourceful individual to join its strategy team as an associate director, deputy director, or director (title commensurate with experience). DESRI is a market-leading owner and operator of renewable energy projects throughout the United States. We have acquired or developed approximately 10 gigawatts of contracted capacity across a portfolio of over 70 renewable energy projects in 24 states. What You'll Do Day-to-day

You’ll be responsible for evaluating a project’s risk-adjusted return profile and driving execution on a variety of different transactions such as securing project offtake or power market origination, leading mergers and acquisitions opportunities, and managing bespoke financings or asset sell-downs. In this role, you’ll work closely with groups across the DESRI business, including development, finance, and the physical teams, along with our joint venture partners. You’ll also implement other business development opportunities and DESRI strategies, including evaluating power markets, supply and demand needs or constraints, and new offtake structures. The role is both transactional (e.g., leading M&A and financings or executing power offtake) as well as focused on high-level strategy and business development.

Who We're Looking For

• Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree and at least six years of experience, including experience in project finance debt and tax equity. Experience in the financing of renewable energy assets is required.
• Applicants should have a good understanding of energy capital markets, as well as a keen analytical skill set.
• A record of academic and professional achievement, well-developed communication skills, the ability to collaborate well with a small team, proven organizational acumen when working on multiple projects, and a high level of motivation are all vital to this role.
• We seek individuals with impressive project-execution skills, who can think creatively and build relationships with counterparties.
• The expected annual base salary for this position is $140,000 to $160,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, and benefits, including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401k contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
