The D. E. Shaw group (DESCO) seeks a talented associate to join its venture studio group, DESCOvery. DESCOvery ideates, researches, and builds out innovative technology-oriented businesses and ventures in areas such as fintech, insurtech, and data. WHAT YOU'LL DO DAY-TO-DAY:
You’ll gain hands-on experience in multiple startup efforts in the early stages of idea generation and business building. You’ll work closely with senior team members to perform diligence and refine and incubate ideas; for promising ideas that pass the incubation phase, you’ll help recruit management teams to execute them and support companies through the life cycle of a startup to build high-value businesses.
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
Candidates should have a bachelor’s or advanced degree, an impressive record of academic and professional achievement, and at least two years of work experience. We’re interested in candidates from a variety of different industries, including consulting, technology, and venture capital, as well as academic disciplines, such as computer science, economics, and humanities.
We’re looking for ambitious and creative idea generators with superb teamwork capabilities and impressive critical thinking, analytical, project management, and communication skills. Individuals who are entrepreneurial, highly motivated, and focused on building and commercializing new startup businesses will excel in this role.
In keeping with our firm’s culture, we’re more interested in talent, entrepreneurship, and curiosity than we are in any particular skill or experience.
The expected annual base salary for this position is $125,000 to $200,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes substantial variable compensation in the form of a year-end bonus, guaranteed in the first year of hire, a relocation bonus, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401k contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
