Job Description

Job Summary

The Riverside Church is seeking a Development Coordinator to join our Communications & Development team. This role coordinates development initiatives aimed securing major and legacy gifts to increase funding and overall fundraising. This position will include collaborating with clergy and staff, researching and preparing grant proposals, alongside other development functions such as conducting prospect research and processing Sharing Fund grants.

Schedule: Hybrid: Mondays – Fridays or Sundays – Thursdays (Preferred); At least 3-4 days a week in the office

Responsibilities

  • Major & Legacy Gifts
    • Cultivate relationships with major gift prospects and identifying new prospects to secure major and legacy gifts.
    • Coordinate portfolio of donors and prospects.
    • Support in planning Annual Giving Campaign appeal outreach that focuses on segmentation.
  • Grants
    • Identify and research potential funding sources, including foundations, corporations, and government entities.
    • Develop and write compelling grant proposals and applications tailored to the specific requirements of each funding source.
    • Maintain master calendar of grants and prospects and all associated files and correspondence.
  • Administrative Support
    • Process Sharing Fund grant applications.
    • Assist in supporting fundraising campaigns and events.
    • Coordinate reports using Excel for incoming gifts and pledges.
    • Assist in member, donor, and bequest correspondence.
Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required, with 3-5 years of development experience.
  • Self-directed, flexible, and able to multi-task while maintaining high attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of regional community, corporate, family foundation funding sources.
  • Grant writing experience preferred, and/or high capacity for writing fundraising material.
  • Prospect research experience desired.
  • Innovative problem-solver with the ability to be creative, flexible, detail-oriented, and well-organized.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products; database software experience desired.

Exceptional Candidates Will Have:

  • Experience with databases such as Raiser’s Edge, Pushpay, Blackbaud, etc.
  • Experience working in a church or non-profit organization in a development capacity.
  • Experience in securing major gifts.
  • Knowledge of email marketing software (e.g., Mailchimp, Benchmark, DotDigital).
  • Coordinating events.
