We are looking for a Director of Communications and Media Relations to join our corporate team in Irvine, CA

The Director of Communications and Media Relations is responsible for developing and executing on International Education Corporation’s (IEC) communication strategy, the objective of which is to accurately and positively spread the message of IEC’s vision, mission, and position within the spectrum of American postsecondary education. Key functions of the position include serving as IEC’s central point for press and public inquiries, providing strategic direction in the dissemination of media and news, event promotion, and creation and distribution of communication and information to specific stakeholder groups.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, communicate and manage a centralized strategic plan to tell the story of IEC and its students through various channels of communication
  • Promote an accurate, representative, and positive image of IEC and its place as an integral part of American postsecondary education
  • Ensure all communications align with IEC’s students-first culture and key strategies to accurately and completely tell our story
  • Oversee press and media relations, including preparation and distribution of news releases and media inquiries, ensuring accurate, representative, and positive media exposure for IEC
  • Provide strategic guidance to leaders across the organization on communications relating to IEC initiatives
  • Develop and maintain positive, continuous and professional relationships with national and local media and influencers within the postsecondary education sector
  • Serve as a key communications representative for the organization; when necessary, act as spokesperson for interviews in public, print, television, radio and digital platforms
  • Direct and coordinate media relations plans, external communications and community relations
  • Lead, manage, and drive IEC’s communications and media relations activities and initiatives with quality and integrity
  • Develop and implement comprehensive internal communication strategies to enhance employee engagement, promote organizational culture, and ensure alignment with the company's mission, vision, and values. This role requires a strategic thinker with excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills who can effectively manage communication across all levels of the organization.
  • Close collaboration with marketing and other departments to ensure cohesive and coordinated brand communication efforts.
  • Partner with Government Relations and Compliance staff to build and maintain strong relationships with community leaders, government officials, accreditors, and other key stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public relations or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in Communications with an emphasis in Public/Media Relations
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in writing and placing influential, timely articles and stories in high traffic sites and media outlets
  • Experience in the education space is preferable
  • A results-focused approach and an unrelenting drive to secure and measure media coverage that accurately and positively depicts what we do and who we serve daily
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and productively alone as well as within a very busy and demanding professional environment
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and comfortably do administrative work as well as high level strategic work
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully complete multiple projects concurrently.
  • A self-disciplined, organized structured self-starter with the relentless ability to think strategically and execute tactically
  • Superior verbal and written communications skills
