The Director of Development works closely with the Vice President, Development to increase and diversify giving, with the expectation of securing $1M-$1.5M in commitments annually. The Director is responsible for the identification, cultivation and solicitation of gifts from individuals and families for Big Brothers Big Sisters Miami’s annual programs, operations, and special events and capital projects.
Key Relationships:
Director of Development will directly report to the VP of Fund Development
Essential and Other Responsibilities (perform other duties as assigned):
Raise a minimum of $1 million annually via the discovery, cultivation and solicitation of donors-new and renewals- with a giving level of $1,500 and more annually via the giving societies Miracle Society and Dream Maker.
Collaborate with VP, Development to set and manage goals and create and implement a comprehensive annual plan for securing support
Build, manage and sustain relationships with donors of all giving levels.
Serve as donors’ and prospects’ main point of contact, understanding and being positioned to communicate content and impact on an ongoing basis
Manage the Donor Relations Coordinator and their portfolio of donors (under $1,500) and year-round stewardship plans and efforts
Manage the Donor Relations Coordinator and his/her portfolio of Impact Circle and Match Maker donors and robust stewardship plan
Manage a portfolio of event table and sponsorship sales from individual supporters
Identify prospects and build strategy for move-ups, multi-year asks, and setting a track for major gift asks
Manage the annual giving campaign inclusive of Give Miami Day, end of year giving and cause-related marketing efforts.
Proactively identify, research and cultivate short and long-term prospective funders, leveraging professional relationships and those of BBBS Miami senior leadership (CEO, senior leadership, and board members)
Work with the Development Department to oversee donor recognition, stewardship and benefit fulfillment for institutional supporters
Monitor giving trends on local, state and national levels
Assist as necessary with preparations and follow through for the annual audit
Document and track all fundraising activities and goals in the Raiser’s Edge database, and develop and distribute regular progress-to-goal, moves management and donor activity reports
Qualifications and Experience Requirements:

five to ten years of professional experience with a successful record of accomplishment in achieving fundraising goals
Excellent organizational and time management skills, including setting and communicating realistic deadlines while overseeing a timeline and team members to achieve funder objectives
Knowledge of the corporate, foundation, and government arts funding landscape and regional and national philanthropic communities
Experience in budget compilation and reporting for complex organizations
Outstanding writing, editing and proofreading skills with an in-depth knowledge of AP-style
Contributes to a positive team dynamic and a participatory workstyle
Discretion and the ability to handle confidential information with great sensitivity
Excellent reasoning abilities, sound judgment, superior interpersonal skills, and impeccable attention to detail
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs and fundraising databases, such as Raisers Edge
Excellent writing skills backed by case statements, proposals, and collateral material examples
Superb verbal and presentation proficiency; as well as effective planning, organization, time management, and multi-tasking skills
Exemplary emotional intelligence, with the ability to inspire donors and partners about the mission of BBBS Miami

Flexibility to work after regular office hours for programs and events
This position is based in Miami, Florida, at BBBS of Miami’s headquarters at 550 NW 42nd Avenue Miami, FL 33126 with 5% of total work time traveling.
Compensation:
The Development Manager position is a exempt full-time position. This position is supervised by VP of Fund Development. The salary for this position is between $85-$110k depending on experience. BBBS of Miami positions involve regular computer use plus some minimal lifting.
