As the Director of Utilities Operations, you will be responsible for ensuring successful performance and operational execution at the regional level. This includes monitoring and reporting on overall business process compliance, project financials, and strategies for utility-based projects. Reporting directly to the Division Manager, you will provide operational oversight and technical direction in managing large, complex design-build utility projects, as well as smaller projects through subordinate managers and supervisors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety Support: Advance all Safety initiatives by supporting our Safety Programs at all levels.
  • Operational Updates: Keep the Regional Management Team informed of operational and project activities, including financials, scheduling, work in progress, forecasting, budgets, compliance, scope changes, procurement strategies, labor requirements, etc.
  • Field Performance: Manage and ensure overall field performance, providing solutions and guidance where performance falls short.
  • Bid Analysis: Participate in bid analysis with project stakeholders.
  • Status Updates: Provide stakeholders with regular updates on ongoing work, including monthly Job Reviews.
  • Budget Development: Participate in the development of regional operating budgets, coordinating with Divisional Management and reviewing with the Regional Vice President.
  • Policy Adherence: Ensure all company, client, and project policies, procedures, and standards are adhered to.
  • Scorecard Reviews: Participate in Divisional and Regional Scorecard Reviews to evaluate performance metrics and develop improvement strategies.
  • Strategic Planning: Participate in regional and divisional strategic planning, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy.
  • Safety Programs: Assist with the implementation and interpretation of safety programs.
  • Project Management Methodology: Ensure compliance with our Project Management Methodology across all utility-based projects.
  • Mentorship: Support Divisional Management and others in promoting individual and professional growth, acting as a mentor.

Education Requirements:

  • Undergraduate Degree in related engineering, business, or construction disciplines or equivalent experience.
  • PMP designation, Gold Seal Certification, MBA, P.Eng, or CET Certification are considered assets.

Work Experience Requirements:

  • 10 years of experience with a multi-trade contractor in the construction sector, ideally in Utilities.
  • Proven performance in managing a business or large operational business unit.
  • Strong track record in business and operational management, project performance, project profitability, and employee development.
  • Preference for candidates with self-performing utility construction experience, particularly in transportation, high voltage/substations, civil projects, etc.
