The AVP Success Center is actively seeking a Director of Veterinary Operations to join our emerging veterinary group. AVP partners with veterinary hospitals across the United States, and we need a dynamic professional to mentor hospital leadership teams, build scalable workflows, and manage clinical P&Ls while ensuring the highest industry standards.

In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for mentoring and training hospital leadership teams, developing and implementing scalable workflows, and managing clinical P&Ls. Your focus will be on driving revenue growth, reducing costs, collaborating with local teams, establishing KPIs, expanding medical services, and implementing risk mitigation strategies. Ensuring cohesive and efficient operations across all hospitals is vital to this role.

  • A successful candidate will have the following core competencies:
  • Strategic Planning and Execution: Develop and implement strategic plans that align with the company's objectives of expanding its network of veterinary hospitals and driving operational/organic value creation. This role requires proficiency in translating broad visions into actionable strategies and managing the execution to drive business growth, operational efficiency, and process consistency across the network.
  • P&L Ownership and Financial Acumen: Assume ownership of the profit and loss statements for each clinic, closely following and understanding underlying trends, and implementing changes to enhance financial performance. Drive revenue and manage costs. Understand KPIs and key dynamics in business to drive results, prioritize efforts, and make key decisions. Incorporate data into decision process.
  • Operational Excellence: Streamline operations, maintain process consistency, and implement best practices. Be able to take best practices from one clinic and implement the same best practices at other clinics.
  • Leadership and Team Development: Evaluate and develop team members, ensuring alignment with AVP's values and objectives. Focus on building a team capable of sustaining growth and adapting to increasing responsibilities as the company expands. Instill accountability and "can do / problem solver" attitude. Create a positive work environment and foster positive relationships with clinical teams. Establishes clear standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Maintain Clinical Standards: Ensure the provision of remarkable patient care whilst maintaining compliance with all applicable regulatory and organizational requirements and standards including OSHA, DEA, FDA, and applicable state and local agencies.
  • Change Management: Lead change management initiatives to integrate new acquisitions smoothly and implement new technologies and practices across the network.
  • Strategic Relationships: Expand and enhance AVP's strategic relationships, leveraging economies of scale and establishing impactful collaborations with vendors and other partners to maximize operational efficiencies and cost savings.
  • Collaborates: Work beyond your team to build relationships and partner across the org to drive results.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily operations of multiple veterinary practices within the network.
  • Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to ensure consistency and quality across all practices.
  • Collaborate with practice managers and veterinary teams to identify areas for improvement and implement effective solutions.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide regular reports to senior management.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Lead initiatives to improve patient care, client satisfaction, and staff engagement.
  • Manage budgets, financial performance, and resource allocation for each practice.
  • Support the recruitment, training, and development of veterinary professionals and support staff.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that aligns with our company values and culture.
  • Leverage startup experience to drive innovation and adapt to the evolving needs of the business.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Veterinary Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CVPM is preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a leader in operations, with at least 5+ years of multi-site experience; veterinary or human healthcare industry background is a plus.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing multi-site operations.
  • Strong leadership acumen, including excellent EQ and the ability to build relationships with other leaders in the organization, including local hospital doctor partners.
  • Prior P&L management experience with a demonstrated track record of successful fiscal and operating leadership, as well as financial expertise.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical, quantitative, and logical thinking skills; strong analytical and presentation skills with the ability to report outcomes to leadership and present solutions in a structured way.
  • Advanced computer skills and proficiency in MS Excel; proficiency in PowerBI is a plus.
  • Availability for regional travel, up to 40% of the time.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make informed decisions.
  • Knowledge of veterinary software systems and technology.
  • Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of veterinary care and customer service.
  • Experience working in a startup environment and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic setting.
