Distribution Engineer II

Job Summary:

PFES is looking for a Distribution Engineer II who will be responsible for the execution and administration of large sized engineering projects, utilizing skills to demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature engineering judgment. Successful applicant will work on behalf of the owner providing oversight and review of conceptual, preliminary, and final design of station projects 4.16 kV through 34.5 kV. The successful candidate must be able to lead the development of bid packages and provide clear, concise, and accurate review of internal engineering design and external engineering design packages. Must have a strong background in distribution engineering and design. Projects involve distribution infrastructure.


This person will report to the lead who will be first person that will be engaged with the customer to gather the information and setup or QA/QC department. They will gather the clients current process and establish the PFES process, SOPs, and Workflows in agreement with the customer. We expect this timeframe to be 6-8 weeks working inside of the customers office with their employees. After that point or before we will onboard the Engineer 2 who will take direction and assignments from the lead on scope packages.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering from ABET accredit program.
  • 5+ year’s distribution design and project engineering experience in the utility industry.
  • PE strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading projects excellent communication (verbal and written), organizational and writing skills are required.


Responsibilities

  • Review drawing packages for distribution drawings and plan and profile drawings
  • Interface with customers and vendors.
  • Develop RFP specifications for bidding
  • Adhere to design review timelines
  • Participate as a member of project teams to assist others in the development of project scope, project cost estimate, project schedule.
  • Participate on site field / scope visits
  • Assist others in developing schedule including critical paths
  • Assist others in developing detailed construction plans and identify outage requirements to implement new facilities.
  • Assist in developing construction contract bid packages; review responses and participates in vendor selection. Attend pre-bid meeting with contractors.
  • Participate in design constructability reviews
  • Participate in developing a detailed construction plan, which includes a list of outages, exact work dates, and construction resource requirements. Insure contractor activities do not compromise system reliability
  • Insure expected quality is achieved by contractor in field
  • Insure project work is maintainable by Grid Operations at end of project
  • Insure project work does not hamper the Grid Operations maintainability of existing equipment at site
  • Monitor schedule and progress versus requested in service date
  • Develop and implement QA/QC plans, procedures, and standards for renewable energy projects, with a focus on solar sites.


  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to project teams on QA/QC matters.
  • Prepare and present QA/QC reports to project stakeholders and senior management.
  • Ensure that all QA/QC records are properly maintained and accessible.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes.
