Distribution Manager

American Foods Group, LLC has an opportunity for a Distribution Manager at at our America's Heartland Packing facility in Warren County, Missouri.

Summary:

We are seeking a hard-working, motivated, and energetic individual to join our growing team. This role will be responsible for all functions (box, combo, ground beef and rendering) including storage, preparing items for shipping, scheduling outbound shipments, interacting with customers, and managing distribution employees. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned professional with extensive knowledge in distribution (shipping, receiving, logistics) and other facility knowledge including purchasing and IT systems and programs, PLC programming, automation, and robotics.

  • Ensure all operations adhere to industry safety protocols and comply with OSHA, DOT and/or other governmental regulations.

  • Utilize data-driven analytical tools and systems to continuously monitor operations, identify inefficiencies, and develop optimization strategies.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve escalated operational issues.

  • Ensure that project/department milestones/goals are met while adhering to approved budgets.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing, sales, customer services and production scheduling in scheduling, routing and shipping finished goods by common carriers.
  • Schedule common carriers and rail shipments and directs common carrier personnel while they are on company property to ensure compliance with safety rules and regulations.
  • Audit all prepaid freight bills.
  • Review and negotiate rates with common carriers.
  • Inspect in-coming/out-going finished goods for quality, quantity and condition.
  • Record truck rates and charges on all customer orders.
  • Maintain knowledge of freight rates for intrastate/interstate iron and steel.

  • Maintain and periodically review routing policy.
  • Assist in taking physical inventories, as required.
  • Maintain finished product storage areas and advise sales of any surplus or slow moving materials.
  • Develop departmental cost improvement programs.
  • Review documents to ensure that assigned classifications and tariffs are in accordance with mode of transportation and destination of shipment.
  • Investigate shipper or consignee complaints regarding lost or damaged merchandise or shortages in shipment to determine responsibility.
  • Direct preparation of claims against carrier responsible and corresponds with shipper or consignee to effect settlement.
  • Complete reports and other paperwork (e.g., discipline, progress evaluations, terminations).
  • Promote and drive succession development within areas of responsibility.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Bachelor’s degree or 5 years supervisory distribution experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the distribution function and department processes.
  • Prior experience in the beef industry.
  • Knowledge of auto (robot) palletizer for finished goods.

  • Ability to manage and coordinate a variety of shipping methods.

  • Ability to communicate well (verbal and written) with employees at all levels.

  • Ability to manage a group of personnel who perform various production tasks or activities.

  • Ability to maintain accurate records.

  • Ability to identify and address safety hazards; promote safety on a daily basis.

  • Ability to lead by example, encourage teamwork and learning, and motivate the hourly workforce.

  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Good computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  • Must have a high math aptitude; be assertive; and be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to perform consistent, accurate work with minimal direction and work successfully as part of a team.
