Purpose

  • Responsible for identifying and defining safety, compliance, and regulatory concerns on Hyundai and Genesis models.
  • Responsible for creating escalation material for executive review.
  • This role will report to either Superior Township, Michigan, or Fountain Valley, California office locations.

Major Responsibilities

  • Through examination of consumer complaint data, field reports, legal cases, supplier information; dealer reports, plant information, prior safety recalls, compliance and consumer metric testing, NHTSA VOQ data and outliers in warranty data, identify possible safety related defects and/or FMVSS non-compliances associated with Hyundai production vehicles.
  • Conduct a thorough data-driven, but timely, investigation.
  • Exercise discretion and judgment to determine preliminary severity, occurrence, and detectability scores.
  • Actively track and manage assigned cases to ensure KPI’s are within requirements (including handle time, response time and reporting deadlines).
  • Draft presentations for management review that clearly defines the issue(s) and the parameters outlined above.
  • Provide immediate notification to upper management of potential catastrophic defects requiring stop sale or immediate field action.

Authority

  • Position requires maintaining a high level of technical knowledge about Hyundai vehicles and automotive components to assist in identifying potential vehicle safety conditions.
  • This position will have access to Hyundai expertise needed to complete investigations and a direct line to upper management to inform of critical issues identification.
  • Liaise with Hyundai design, manufacturing, and supplier affiliates.
  • Responsible for setting objectives and achieving results that have an impact on performance.

Education

~ Master’s degree a plus

~ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Applied Statistics/Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Engineering preferred.

Related Experience

  • At least six years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in conducting timely investigations into equipment failure modes.
  • Experience in gathering and analyzing statistical data preferred.
  • One or more years of experience in the automotive business, including, vehicle safety, design, testing, field reliability evaluation, and service is preferred.
  • Automotive assembly plant or component manufacturing experience a plus.

Skills/Knowledge

  • Results-driven with excellent project and program management skills.
  • Ability to proactively collaborate with peers, vehicle component experts, and leadership within the organization and creatively problem-solve needed to complete investigations.
  • Ability to identify and utilize the corporation's expertise related to the issue under investigation.
  • Specialized knowledge of specific vehicle systems or performance areas such as powertrain, chassis, electrical, crashworthiness, etc.
  • Ability to present investigation findings to all pertinent levels of the corporation.
  • Aptitude to work well with and communicate clearly with members of various HMA and HMC legal, quality, engineering, testing, and service departments.
  • Ability to establish a professional relationship, work well, and communicate clearly with NHTSA Investigators on identified issues of concern.

$86,800.00 - $124,000.00 Annual
