Duties

  • Performs a wide variety of craft and trade duties to operate, maintain, and repair facilities at various locations within the Marias/Milk River Division (MMRD).
  • Operates dump trucks, automobiles, flail mowers, and cranes as well as heavy equipment such as bulldozers, track mounted excavators, backhoes, front end loaders, and road graders to assist with cleaning and maintaining roads and other land management areas.
  • Performs maintenance on recreational facilities as well as dams, spillways, outlet works, diversion dams, canals, and associated facilities and structures.
  • Monitors reservoir and canal water levels by performing onsite inspections, operates gates and valves, and collects instrumentation data to monitor the performance of dams.
  • Manages fleet vehicle maintenance by scheduling and overseeing preventive maintenance, stocking materials, and maintaining vehicle and service maintenance files. Maintains and services vehicles, trailers and other equipment.

You must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. National.

You must be suitable for federal employment, determined by a background investigation.

You must maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times as the position requires operation of government vehicles on government and public roads. Failure to maintain a valid State Driver's License at all times will result in removal from the position.

You must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at the time of application and is a condition of employment. Failure to maintain a Class A CDL will result in the termination of appointment.

You will be required to obtain a successful pre-employment physical examination by a licensed physician certifying your ability to perform the duties of this position. A physical exam may not be required if a comparable agency approved examination was performed within the last 12 months. The cost of the exam will be reimbursed by the agency.

You will be required to submit to a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment as a condition of employment. This position is also subject to random drug testing.

Qualifications

Your application materials must demonstrate sufficient experience and training to perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum qualifications for trades and labor positions are determined by evaluation of job elements. You must meet at least 2 points on the screen-out element(s) and obtain an average of at least 2 points on all of the job elements in order to be considered qualified for this position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Selective Placement Factor: This position requires a current, valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL). Failure to provide proof of such license will cause you to be rated ineligible for this position.

You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification requirements, including any selective placement factors if applicable, by 07/08/2024.

Education

This position does not allow substituting education for experience.

You may be required to serve an initial probationary period. Current, permanent Federal employees who are selected from this announcement may be required to serve a probationary period.

Reclamation has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and you may be allowed to telework with supervisory approval.

Related non-Federal experience or related experience as retired members of the uniformed services may be credited towards computing entitlement to leave accrual, at managerial discretion, providing that experience meets certain criteria. How You Will Be Evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.

Category rating and selection procedures will be used to evaluate applications from this announcement.
