Job Summary

Assists in planning, organizing, and implementing events and functions for the Center for Cellular Construction, which may include symposiums, conferences, program events including center-wide meetings, retreats and program site visits.

This position is for on-call project-based work in a variety of functions and areas, supporting Center for Cellular Construction program needs, especially logistics for large events. Incumbent will participate in pre-event preparation, assist in set up at venues, serve as a point person to communicate with AV and event staff as needed, help troubleshoot and oversee breakdown. Incumbent will utilize BearBuy to purchase supplies pre-event. This position will work closely with CCC Managing Director and help support a team to facilitate large meetings.

Department Description

The NSF funded Center for Cellular Construction is an interconnected network of labs and educators at UCSF, SFSU, UC Berkeley, Stanford University, IBM Almaden Research Center and the Exploratorium museum in San Francisco, collaborating in (i) building the tools and concepts to implement a full design-build-test cycle in cell biology; (ii) creating new engineering-based curricula for high school biology education; (iii) broadening awareness of cells as machines to be engineered; and (iv) driving innovation through real-world applications including transfer of approaches and knowledge into industry through partnerships and startups. The CCC is a multidisciplinary, multi-institutional program comprised of integrating research into broadening participation, education and training initiatives, increasing diversity, and knowledge transfer beyond normal dissemination of research findings.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors' degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Minimum 1 year of related experience
  • Working knowledge of concepts, principles and practices of event planning and production and public relations
  • Working organizational skills, including skill in effectively coordinating and organizing multiple details. Excellent organizational abilities appropriate to effective calendar management and student and / or volunteer scheduling
  • Good interpersonal communication skills and political acumen, including skill in effectively representing the campus, medical center or other university organization to its publics
  • Good judgment and effective decision-making and problem resolution skills, including skill to recognize and deal effectively and appropriately with real and potential problem areas, including skill to determine the issues / problems that need to be brought to the attention of higher level staff and / or management
  • Ability to work in diverse groups, including but not limited to students, staff, faculty, general public, production personnel, technical operators and performing artists
  • Ability to work professionally under pressure and under tight deadlines ensuring excellent customer service support

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of the campus, its programs, policies, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure
