Financial Aid Advisor II: Advises students and parents regarding the financial aid process from inquiries to disbursement of funds.

Responsibilities:

  • 25% Assists students, parents, and college staff with complex or escalated financial aid inquiries, application challenges, and loan concerns in person, in writing, by telephone or other electronic means.
  • 25% Processes paper and electronic documents and makes corrections in COD, NSLDS, and CPS in order to complete verification of FAFSA information and award aid.
  • 20% Packages federal, state and institutional financial aid awards to students. This includes, but is not limited to, reviewing student files, understanding and implementation of policy and procedures and producing written correspondence and preparing mailings.
  • 10% Manages federal, state, and mentor work study programs; accepts and reviews applications to the program, communicates with students, trains supervisors, and makes entries/adjustments to award allocations.
  • 5% Attends financial aid training, workshops, seminars, and conferences to maintain current knowledge of financial aid requirements and regulations.
  • 5% Markets financial aid services by attending a variety of community events. Conducts financial aid workshops and financial literacy seminars for new and prospective students and community groups.
  • 5% Performs basic accounting tasks and reconciles budgets with the business office.
  • 5% Performs other duties as assigned

  • Maintains a current knowledge of federal, state, and institutional packaging policies and procedures that pertain to financial assistance.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of student information and other private records.
  • Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to federal and state financial aid; adheres to institutional policies and procedures for processing financial aid.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Six months to two years of similar or related experience.
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the college for the purpose of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
  • Other Skills: One to two years of experience in financial aid or related field is preferred. Decision-making, problem-solving and attention to detail are a must. Strong interpersonal, customer service, communication, and presentation skills are also required. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new applications as needed to complete work assignments.
  • Physical Requirements: The work is typically sedentary. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to do the work.
  • Work Environment: Regular exposure to favorable conditions such as those found in a typical office.
