JOB PURPOSE: The Special Needs Collaborator will coordinate disabilities activities for children with a defined disability, including establishing and maintaining a cooperative working relationship with other Head Start staff, working with teachers and parents to aid their understanding of the needs of the child receiving services.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Provides quality early care and education, disability, and mental health services
Ensures quality services are delivered to families of special needs children
Possesses knowledge and expertise which results in continuous improvement of efficient and effective disability and mental health services
Guarantees that resources are maximized resulting in comprehensive services to children and families
Builds and maintains positive relationships with staff, parents, children, and the community
Ensures that actions and statements, as a representative of the agency, promote and progress the agency mission
Maintains confidentiality in accordance with agency policy and according to federal, state and local regulations
Achieves desired results with children, parents, staff and community by effectively using all forms of communication
Other duties as assigned
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Works well independently and as part of a team
Works well with individuals of all cultures and socio-economic backgrounds
Strong organizational skills, ability to monitor and prioritize workload and meet strict deadlines
Strong communication skills, both written and oral
Ability to lift and move objects up to 20 pounds
Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, sit, and rise from the floor
Ability to reach with hands/arms and use hands to manipulate, handle, and feel objects
Reliable transportation required
Background check/drug screen
Valid First Aid/CPR certification
SCHEDULE:
8-hour shift, Monday-Friday
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Associate’s degree in special education, social work, psychology or related field (required)
Bachelor’s degree and/or precious special education or related experience (preferred)
